Interestingly, this mosque accommodates more than 40, 000 people at a time to offer prayer. There are three different prayer rooms in this mosque and another only for women to offer their prayers. The 35-ton Iranian carpet spread on the main prayer hall of this mosque is the world’s biggest carpet.

The first ceremony hosted at this Mosque was the funeral Sheikh Zayed when he was buried at the site. One can see reflective pools around the mosque that magnified its beauty. The white and gold mosque shines in the bright sunshine during the day. It looks absolutely divine in its unique lighting system as the moon shines after sunset.

Dress Code

You have to dress according to the instructions about the dress code of the mosque. Uniquely, the dress code is long trousers for men and long sleeve top and loose fit long skirts for women, along with scarves to cover their heads. Such dress codes are due to the respect of the holy place.

Opening Hours

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque opens every day to its visitors unlike any other mosque in Abu Dhabi. However, for the worshippers, it opens only every Friday. The mosque opens every day at 9 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. One can enter the mosque at 9:30 p.m. at the most.  The mosque authority provides hourly complimentary tours during the following hours:
  • Sunday to Thursday - 10 am, 11 am and 5 pm
  • Friday - 5pm and 7pm
  • Saturday - 10am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm and 7pm.

Ramadan Opening Hours

The mosque opens every day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., except every Friday during the holy month of Ramadan.
