Location and Other Details
Recently, the authorities of Abu Dhabi have renamed Al Khalidiyah Park as Sheikh Fatima Park. It is one of the most iconic parks in the middle of Abu Dhabi. The Al Khalidiya Park is located on Electra Street, or 7th street, and Al Khaleej Al Arab Street, or 30th street. The exotic park spreads over a large space and covers an area of over 46, 000 sq. meters.
Description of the Al Khalidiyah Park
The Al Khalidiyah Park offers some relief to its visitors from the scorching summer days. Hundreds of visitors visit this alluring park to enjoy the cool breeze and have some fresh air.
The Al Khalidiyah Park is much loved by the fitness maniacs. The splendid park has a paved walkway for public walks and jogs. It offers a 20-minute circuit jogging track for the joggers. Besides these, the park is equipped with numerous climbing equipment’s, trampolines and other attractions. These are specially designed to attract the children and the teenagers. There is an option for the children, where they can engage themselves in feeding the ducks.
The Al Khalidiyah Park provides no space for barbecues. Yet, the visitors can enjoy their leisure time by either relaxing on the green grasses under the shades of palm trees or can have a quality time with friends and families over picnics. The full bloom trees, here, is a home to a variety of birds. Indeed, this exotic park is a perfect place to lure your heart.
Timings and Entrance Fees
The entrance fee to the Al Khalidiyah Park is 1 AED from 3 PM to 11 PM for every person visiting there. However, children up to 10 years of age are allowed to enter for free. Further, during morning hours there are no entrance fees for the visitors.
The Al Khalidiyah Park is open seven days a week. The timings are from-
- Sunday to Wednesday 8 AM to 10 PM
- Thursday to Saturday 8 AM to 11 PM
Recently, the Sheikh Fatima Park is undergoing some renovation work by Abu Dhabi government. The estimated cost of this renovation is expected to be around 94 million Dirhams. Though the redevelopment process got delayed due to unforeseen events, the higher authorities have declared that the new park will be reopened to the public in July 2018.
The new Sheikh Fatima Park shall include approximately 24, 035 square meters of walkways, play areas, shady green areas, fountains, pavilions etc. The wonderful park will provide a number of added facilities. For instance, the new park will introduce an outdoor market for buying everyday goods and also a separate playground for the children. In addition, the park will have a cultural stadium for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the country. There shall also be a new butterfly park, a botanical garden, skiing facility and an interactive fountain inside the park. Cafes, organic food market, outdoor seating areas, passenger drop-off areas, retail suites, etc. will be also organized for public entertainment. The running and cycling track will be an added advantage to the visitors.
The park is being redeveloped for inspiring and promoting a variety of cultural events and sports. This renovation is an important part of the government’s initiatives to increase the green spaces and promoting other recreational activities. This revamp is being made keeping in view the vision 2030 of Abu Dhabi. The citizens also feel that the latest developments will uplift this park inequality with the Mother of the Nation Park. Hence, it focuses on the growth and development of Abu Dhabi.
However, the residents in the neighborhoods believe that the parks occupy a major part of the parking space. Despite the negative feedbacks, from the neighboring areas, the authorities are keen to increase the greenery of Abu Dhabi.
